Environmental Policy

At The Gym Group, we are committed to environmental stewardship and aim to be a leader in sustainable practices within the health and fitness sector. We recognize the impact our operations have on both the natural and built environments, and we are dedicated to mitigating these impacts through proactive and strategic environmental management. Our focus areas and targets are aligned with the Paris Agreement and UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Our Commitments:

  • Pollution Prevention and Continuous Improvement: We are committed to preventing pollution and continually enhancing our environmental management system to ensure the highest standards of environmental performance.
  • Resource Efficiency: We aim to minimize our consumption of natural resources, such as fossil fuels and water, by prioritizing renewable energy sources, introducing new technology to reduce water consumption and use of sustainable materials whenever practicable.
  • Sustainable Procurement: We collaborate with our supply chain to procure materials that are safe for both human health and the environment. We prioritise sustainable businesses to minimise our environmental footprint and encourage our key suppliers to set their own emission reduction targets.
  • Carbon Emissions Reduction: We are committed to reducing our carbon emissions both in our operations and supply chain in line with a 1.5oC trajectory by reducing consumption in our gyms and engaging with our supply chain. We have validated our emissions reduction targets with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
  • Sustainable Transport: We strive to reduce the environmental impact associated with the transport of materials, goods, and people by optimizing logistics and promoting sustainable travel options.
  • Waste Management: We are committed to eliminating our waste sent to landfill and enhancing recycling efforts within our operations and through our waste management partners.
  • Environmental Awareness: We actively work to improve the environmental awareness and responsibility of our colleagues, members, suppliers, and contractors through education and engagement initiatives.
  • Community Engagement: We recognize our impact on local communities and other stakeholders. We are committed to minimizing any negative effects of our activities and engaging in open dialogue with these groups where appropriate.
  • Legislative Compliance: We adhere to all applicable environmental legislation and strive to exceed identified best practices within our sector.

Governance and Accountability:

All colleagues, suppliers, and contractors play a vital role in helping The Gym Group achieve its environmental objectives. We also acknowledge our influence over the environmental performance of our supply chain and take this responsibility seriously.

The Gym Group PLC Board and The Gym Limited Directors are fully committed to the governance and implementation of this policy, to providing open and transparent reporting and to continual improvement of environmental performance. We will ensure its ongoing effectiveness and relevance, particularly as the business evolves and as environmental legislation and best practices change.

This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains current and effective in achieving our environmental goals.
